Title: Giving Thanks   Send to a Friend
Date: 11/23/2011

Friends,

Welcome to another addition of Women of Wisdom's (W.O.W) e-letter! W.O.W's mission is to encourage you to live the divine purpose for your life! Expect to see a W.O.W. e-letter monthly and be sure to pass them on to your friends.

My daughter is dating a delightful young man that we are getting to know. Recently, he celebrated a milestone birthday and I decided to bake him a cake.  I wasn’t sure what type of cake he liked and since it was to be a surprise, I asked my daughter to find out what he enjoyed.  She did and we learned that his favorite cake was chocolate fudge with chocolate icing.  Anyone that knows me knows that my favorite food in the entire world is CHOCOLATE!  Naturally, when I heard that he too shared my fondness for all things chocolate, I said, “This young man is a man after my own heart!”

This of course made me think of where I had heard something similar said about another young man thousands of years ago.    It is what God once said about King David of Israel.   David wasn’t a perfect man but God once said of him, “David is a man after my own heart.”(Acts 13:22)  I often wondered what God meant by this.  It would seem that David seemed to love what God loved.  He is quoted as saying, “How I delight in your commands! How I love them!” (Psalm 119:47)  All one has to do is read any of the Psalms to see how very much David loved God and pursued His way with his entire being.  I think God may have had this in mind as He thought about David.  God could see David’s heart and in many ways if God loved chocolate, you could be sure that David would have loved chocolate too!

So what does this have to do with giving thanks?  Is it possible that the best way any of us can express our love for God is to demonstrate gratitude for His great love for us?  Could we start by loving what He loves? Having a grateful heart allows us to live contented lives.   Gratitude gives us the freedom to show compassion to others, to give freely from our abundance, and to eagerly look for opportunities to share God’s love with others.  Giving thanks starts with our obedience to believe that we are beloved of God and accepting that everything He has called us to be we can be through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Each of us can be a person after God’s own heart!

During this Thanksgiving season, stop and think about God’s great love for you.  Does it warm your heart to know that He is always thinking about you? (Psalm 139:17-18) Does it warm your heart to realize that despite any circumstances you may be facing, He will never leave you nor forsake you? (Matthew 28:20) Does it warm your heart to know that even now you are in the palm of His hand and His plans for you are still good?(Jeremiah 29:11)

Giving thanks becomes easy when we reflect on these things.  We have all we need if we have the truth of God’s word in our hearts and I, for one, am very thankful to have that.

Be Blessed!
