Title: Spending Time in God's Waiting Room   Send to a Friend
Date: 05/01/2007

Friends,

Welcome to another addition of Women of Wisdom's (W.O.W) e-letter! W.O.W's mission is to encourage you to live the divine purpose for your life! Expect to see a W.O.W. e-letter monthly and be sure to pass them on to your friends.

3rd Edition, Volume 3, Demi #37

“So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon.”  (Genesis 41:14)

Imagine what that day was like for Joseph!  It had been two years since God had used him to interpret the dreams of the chief baker and the chief cupbearer from Pharaoh’s staff.  Two years since he had hoped that this “connection” would create an opportunity to get him out of jail.  Two years wondering why no one had remembered him.  Two years to think about the dream God had placed in his heart and to wonder if maybe he had gotten it wrong – had misunderstood.  And then one day, a day like hundreds of days before, Pharaoh sent for him.  Can you imagine it?  How his heart must have beat with anticipation.  What had happened?  Why was Pharaoh sending for him out of the blue?  What had he done?  Was he in trouble?  Was he to be finally free at last?

As I paused to meditate on this passage, I could feel my own pulse rise as I thought of the moment Joseph was brought out of the dungeon.  He had no way of knowing what the outcome would be that day.  He didn’t know if his being called was a good thing or a bad thing.  However, the next part of the passage is very revealing.  It says, “But Joseph first shaved himself, changed his clothes, and made himself presentable; then he came into Pharaoh’s presence.”  In other words – Joseph got ready.  Even though he wasn’t sure why he was being pulled out of the dungeon to meet with Pharaoh, he wanted to be sure that Pharaoh’s first impression of him was a good one.

What an important life principle.  Many times we too are in “God’s waiting room”.  The waiting room may feel like a dungeon.  Dark, empty, useless, and hopeless.  The dungeon is the place and season in our lives that seem as though nothing is happening.  The dreams we had for our life seem impossible in the dungeon or have died altogether.  It is in the dungeon that we wonder if we are forgotten by those significant to us and especially by God.  The dungeon seems endless and forever – day after day the same, and the question in our heart is “How long God?”  or “God have you forgotten about me?”

But then one day everything changes.  Suddenly, our circumstances are turned upside down and doors that were closed and locked before are opened in a way that amaze us and literally take our breath away!  We know in that instant that no one could have opened the door to our dungeon but God.  What will be our response?  Will we flee from the dungeon in our old “dungeon clothes” or will we, like Joseph, stop to prepare ourselves for the opportunity awaiting us?

If you are in that season of waiting, be encouraged.  This season didn’t come to stay.  It came to pass.  And when it does – be ready.  Use your “dungeon days” to seek God and know His heart.  Spend time with Him and read His word.  Because one day soon, the door will open and you will be brought quickly out.  Who knows, it could be today!

Be Blessed!
